Disabling Intranet Browser access on Blackberry Devices

In today's IT market, companies carry a lot of proprietary information on their company Intranet sites that do not need to be accessible. One security loophole that most people will miss is unless you disable the Blackberry Browser on handhelds, your company's Intranet sites will still be vulnerable in the event of a lost Blackberry device.

There are two methods to go about doing this. One, is to disable the Blackberry MDS service on your BES server(s). One caveat of doing this is, that you will disable internet browsing all together.

To disable the Blackberry Browser, first go into your IT policy, under Global Items, and set the "Allow Browser" policy to "False.

Second, go into the IT policy, under the Browser Policy Group, and set "Allow IBS Browser" to false. This will remove the Blackberry Browser icon from your user's Blackberry Devices.
Once those settings have been changed, and the IT Policy has been pushed to handhelds, users will not be able to reach their corporate Intranet, but will still be able to get out to the Internet on their handhelds.
